Cody Farren is an Irish writer-director with a large portfolio of feature screenplays and multiple award-winning short films. He holds a First Class Honours MA in Screenwriting from IADT and a BA in Film and Television Production from Dundalk Institute of Technology. His work is driven by morally complex characters, fractured relationships and stories that resist easy ideas of guilt, innocence and accountability. His short films include An Irish Goodbye, ANIMAL and Blood Relative. ANIMAL premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh and received awards and nominations for directing, performance and cinematography. Blood Relative was funded by Screen Ireland through the Actor as Creator scheme and is currently beginning its festival run

A Threat of Rain
When Ciaran, a successful but emotionally hollow businessman living in Stockholm, returns to his Irish hometown after the death of his childhood friend Bobby, he is drawn back toward Tara, the first love he abandoned more than a decade earlier. The story unfolds across two intersecting timelines. In 2012, events move forward through one formative summer shared by Ciaran, Tara and Bobby, tracing the friendships, jealousies and misunderstandings that will eventually tear them apart. In 2024, the narrative moves backwards, beginning with the consequences of Ciaran’s return and gradually stripping away his carefully maintained version of the past. As each present-day encounter carries him closer to the moment he first learned of Bobby’s death, the truth of that final summer comes into sharper focus. Ciaran has spent years believing that Tara betrayed him and that Bobby destroyed their relationship. But when Tara finally forces him to confront what happened, he realises that the past was not shaped only by Bobby’s actions, but by his own failure to intervene. Moving backwards through guilt and forwards through memory, A Threat of Rain is a drama about nostalgia, complicity and the stories people construct to survive in their own denial.
