Alfie Barker

Alfie Barker is a Leeds born/based writer and director. His work and approach to story focuses on the displacement of communities, finding strength in character, and empowering real people in the process.
His short HANGING ON was long-listed for a BIFA, shortlisted for a Grierson Award, premiering at TIFF, screening at BFI London Film Festival and won both Best British Short and UK Audience Award at Encounters.
Alfie is a previous BFI Future Film Award winner and a 2023 Sony Future Filmmaker Award Finalist. He was selected as a director on Screen Yorkshire’s FLEX 21’ talent development, also an alumni of Creative UK’s ShortFLIX and the BFI Film Academy (National Film and Television School).
In 2023, he is in post-production with BFI funded fiction short HALF-WAY and in development with his debut feature project HIGH RISK.

High Risk
Deprived from what it means to belong after years in isolation, 32 year old Sara is rejected from her community following a tragedy. Residing in a high risk ex-offenders facility, trapped somewhere between confinement and freedom, which is home to a mix of different personalities; Jodie, a struggling mother who yearns for her children and Kaz, a lost soul who craves attention. Their journeys briefly intersect as they are brought together by circumstance, trying to find a way to reintegrate back into society. Sara is left with the decision of whether to confront her past as her freedom nears.
