Daniel Soares is a Portuguese writer/director, born in Germany.
His short films were screened at festivals like Telluride, Locarno, Clermont-Ferrand, Hong Kong IFF & Shanghai IFF. He was awarded at festivals like Premiers Plans d’Angers (Grand Prix du Jury), IndieLisboa (Best national short film), Zagreb Film Festival (Best international short film), among others.
His newest short film BAD FOR A MOMENT, produced by O Som a a Fúria is set to premiere in 2024. He is currently developing his first feature film 900 TONELADAS, with financial support from Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual (ICA).

Despite going through financial difficulties after becoming a father, Sandro, a 30-year-old garbage man, drives around Lisbon in a luxurious sports car. Cléo, his partner, wants them to leave Portugal in search of a more dignified life. Sandro promises to sell his car but isn’t able to separate himself from it. He secretly tries to keep it, first by selling his long hair and later by becoming a guinea pig for pharmaceutical companies. To finance an object that gives him visibility, he sells his body and little by little, becomes invisible.
