2017 WORKSHOPS

Workshop 1

Flanders, Belgium

LIM started out on its life-journey in a small village in Flanders. For one whole week, team and participants set up camp in an old windmill in the middle of the countryside. Their purpose was clear: to find the core of every project, thematically speaking and narratively speaking. A search for the power that drives every story and the unconscious demand that lies at its heart.

Workshop 2

Transylvania, Romania

In a house lost in the mountains, 20 kms from the nearest village, LIM’s team and participants enter phase 2 of their work: the deep digging. Combining feedback from professionals and following the path of the first rewrites in between the first two workshops, the goal is to establish a bone structure for the script, while integrating the creative trigger of budget limitations. Long walks in the forests of Transylvania, with combined consultants and groups, help find the way…

TIFF Event

Transilvania International Film Festival, Romania

In the middle of an important European film event, the core of all 16 LIM projects, still in early development, is presented to an audience, confronting the authors with film professionals, among which producers, distributors, sales agents, broadcasters. A central tool for the public presentation is an intimate video recorded by each filmmaker. The aim of this encounter is to also create an international network of film professionals, all gathered around LIM’s objectives: use limitations as a launching pad for a new momentum in independent cinema…

Workshop 3

Finistère, France

In Le Groupe Ouest’s home village, on Brittany’s rocky north coast, projects enter the final stretch, working as broader coalition of combined groups and consultants. The purpose is clear: to finalise a strong treatment, or a first draft if possible. It’s a step that injects input from line producers, DOPs and first ADs, to help build in real shooting constraints. This is all about asking the right questions and finding the right answers, using long walks on the beach, among seagulls, to help dig deeper, find doors and windows, connect restrictions with the vital and global need for powerful stories.
